Introducing Andy Wells

Andy Wells has recently joined the ranks of our dynamic and friendly employees as a Distribution Sales Manager. We caught up with him about his career up to date and what he’s looking forward to most in his position with Porvair Sciences. Here’s all you need to know about Andy:

What is your academic background?

I completed a BSc (Hons) in combined sciences at Leicester Polytechnic in the mid-80’s which covered medical sciences and analytical chemistry, before moving on to do 18 months of peptide and immunology research at the University of Birmingham.

Tell us more about your previous work experience…

Back in 1989, I joined the FSA (now Fisher Scientific) as a field-based chromatography sales specialist in North England, selling LC & GC consumables and accessories. I later moved to instrument sales in thermal analysis, rheology and spectroscopy before returning to chromatography as a Distributor Manager.

What does your job involve? List 3 key features?

My role includes enabling our distribution partners to represent us to their customers (and their customers to us), as well as monitoring and motivating them to continually improve their service to us and the customers. I’m also responsible for providing a link from Porvair to the market for future trends, applications and products.

Which part of your job are you most looking forward to, and why?

From a business perspective, I am looking forward to the challenge of further developing the global network of high quality partners that the Porvair products deserve. We have a great catalogue, and getting that message to the scientist at the bench can only result in successful company growth.

On a personal level, I’m thrilled about the fact that this role puts me back at the centre of a network across the world - I have always enjoyed working with people from different backgrounds, nationalities and cultures!

How would you describe yourself at work in 3 words?

Intense, dedicated, and light-hearted

What do you do in your spare time? List 3 hobbies.

Golf, DIY projects, dogs family

How would you describe the team at Porvair?

I have never settled into or been accepted by a team faster! Many of the team members have been working at the company for decades and know the products and processes inside-out, and have a close relationship with customers. A lot of companies state this as their vision, but the team at Porvair is truly dedicated to the customer.

What do you think makes Porvair different from other companies?

Porvair have been manufacturing porous plastic for over 50 years. Our products are ubiquitous in many everyday and laboratory products, but due to our OEM based strategy, Porvair is not a household name. Our core capabilities have been bred into all the company processes and ethics with the aim to deliver a quality product to our OEM customers, accompanied by a service that makes it easier for them to win in their market.

As Porvair Sciences develops more innovative products, such as the Chromatrap range of bead-free ChIP kits for epigenetics and the porous plastic co-sintered with active chromatographic media for chromatographic sample preparation, we have the opportunity approach the market with high quality products that offer scientists real benefits over their current products, backed by the support and services that are at our core.

You can get in touch with our team anytime with enquiries – just fill out our contact form or call on the numbers provided. If you also want to become part of the Porvair family, keep an eye on our news section for updates on available vacancies.
